Trust and privacy at SchoolOpEx

A school trusts us with its children’s records. This page sets out what we promise, how we keep schools and families apart, and what happens if you ever want to leave. We work hard to keep it private and secure.

Our promises

These hold for every school, co-op and homeschool family that uses SchoolOpEx, on every plan.

No ads
SchoolOpEx shows no advertising, to staff or to families.
No trackers
No advertising or analytics trackers in the app. The only cookies are the ones our providers need for security.
Never sold
We never sell or rent your records, or anyone’s information in them.
Never used to train AI
Your records are never used to train AI.
Used only to run your school
Children’s information is used only to run the school or homeschool it belongs to.

Schools and families kept apart

Each school is sealed off from every other. Its records are kept for that school alone, and people at one school never see another school’s records.

Inside a school, each family sees only its own children. A parent never sees another family’s children, grades, messages or bills.

Backups

Encrypted copies of every school’s records are kept by two different companies, so your records do not rest with a single provider. Before any school moves in, we practice a full restore from those copies.

Leaving any time

Your records are yours. You can download everything, free, whenever you like. There are no exit fees, and if you move to another system, we help you move out.

If SchoolOpEx ever shuts down

We will give at least 90 days’ notice when possible. Export stays open the whole time, so every school can take its records with it. After that, the records are deleted.

Accessibility

SchoolOpEx aims to meet WCAG 2.2 AA, the web’s accessibility guidelines. If something on this site or in the app gets in your way, tell us at [email protected] and we will work on it.

Reporting a security problem

If you think you have found a security problem in SchoolOpEx or on this website, write to [email protected]. Please tell us what you found and how to see it, and give us a chance to fix it before you share it with anyone else.

Policies and agreements

Before SchoolOpEx opens, these will be published here in full:

  • the privacy policy for the app;
  • the terms of service;
  • the school data agreement, which sets out how we handle a school’s records;
  • the list of every company that handles data for SchoolOpEx, what each one does and where.

SchoolOpEx opens in summer 2027, in time for the 2027 to 2028 school year. Join the waitlist to hear the day it opens. Before then, we only write when there is real progress to show.
